INTRODUCTION

Hi and Assalamualaikum.My name is Nur Alia Suhana Binti Sulaiman.My surname is Alia or Suhana.My nickname is Alio,Aeya and Alia anak bang Leman.I was born on 21 October 2001.I lived at Juru,Penang.Tourism Managment’s course was my first choice to continuing my study in UITM.I am so happy and glad to be a part of UITM’s student.I hope I will be a dean list student in UITM.I do this portfolio because it was my assingment of interim and introduce to student about UED 102 or well known as soft skills.

In study skill that I have learned during my interim week in beggining of part 1,it’s very useful for students to motivate themselves to focus what they want to achieve.Study skills was devided by 7 topic which is :

MODULE 1: GETTING READY TO LEARN IN A UNIVERSITY

As a student we need to realize that we have entered the universe where we need to be wise and prepared in determining something whether good or worse.We need to be more responsible to arrange our life in university life.It is because in university,everything is depends on your arrangment time and attitude even there’s no one will take care of you.All your family are not gonna watch you in close even though they only can watch you from far.So as a student who wants a success in life, we always have to be and achieve it.There are differences between university students and school students.

What is goals?

Goals is an envision where we want to achieve things that we aim for and take an action.We must to set our own goals to achieve and keep focused on what we want.

Characteristic of goals?

Characteristic of goals setting us to achieve our goals.Like SMART goals can help us achieve a healthier lifestyle.

There are two term of goals which is short term goals is for academic goals and long term goals is for personal goals in life.

WHAT IS TIME MANAGMENT AND ORGANIZATION SKILLS?

TIME MANAGMENT AND ORGANIZATION SKILLS-It was the process of planning and controlling how much time to spend on specific activities to someone managed their schedule for what they must to do.

Strategy of study.

This is example of strategy of study.We must have a schedule to arrange our time wisely to avoid us from waste time on unprofitable things.

MODULE 4 : GET KNOW THE CAMPUS

This is my campus Universiti Teknolgi MARA,Alor Gajah,Melaka or known as UITM Lendu.My campus is the second biggest in UITM.Usually students in UITM Lendu spends their time on their favourite place and to release their mind.So this is where the student usually go :-

LIBRARY

This library has a beautiful landscap where it’s look like an international library.This library have a completely convinience for students.Students can borrow books accept third language books because it’s limited for students.If students borrowed books they have to follow the rules and give back the book on library on the due date.If the students returned the books late after the due date must pay RM 0.20 for one day.In case if the students careless,examination results might be block.

TASIK TUN FATIMAH

This lake have a beautiful scenery where it can released your mind from problem.It’s very natural and we can jogging around the lake to have a healthier lifestyle.This lake is near with library.Usually student use a bridge to go class. Because it’s near with Dang Merdu Wati college. Students also can study at the lake because it’s have cottage near the lake.

MODULE 5 : MEMORY LEARNING,IMPROVING CONCENTRATION & READING SKILLS

1)MEMORY LEARNING:)

What is memory?

-Memory is the faculty of the brain by which data or information is encoded,stored and retrieved when needed.It is the retention of information over time for the purpose of influencing future action.

TYPES OF MEMORY:-

There three types of memory storage are sensory memory,short-term memory,and long-term memory.

2)CONCENTRACTION

What is concentraction?

Concentraction is the ability to direct one’s attention in accordance with one’will.It means control of the attention.It is the ability to focus the mind on one subject,object or thought,and at the same time exclude from the mind every other unrelated thoughts,ideas,feelings and sensations.

Strategies to improve concentraction:

* Pay attention

* Involve as many senses as possible

* Relate new information to what you already know

* Structure information

* Use mnemonics

* Understand information

* Rehearse information

* Exercise your mind

* Develop a healthy lifestyle

* Get sufficient sleep

3) READING SKILLS

What is reading skills?

Reading skills is the ability of an individual to read, comprehend and interpret written words on a page of an article or any other reading material. The possession of a good reading skills will enable the individual to be able to assimilate a written work within a short period while reading.

MODULE 6 : TAKING LECTURER NOTES

What is taking lecturer notes?

This means taking notes whilst you’re doing any preparatory reading, as well as when you are listening in class. And, you need to review your lecture notes periodically after the lecture is finished.

How to take lecturer notes?

* You can’t write down every word

* Pay attention

* Underline,Highlight and Capitalise

* Use shorthand ( Abbreriations)

* Put distractions away

* Be comfortable

* Ask questions when confused

* Share and compare notes with classmates

* Air your opinion

1) AVOIDING PLAGIARISM

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is the “wrongful appropriation” and “stealing and publication” of another author’s “language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions” and the representation of them as one’s own original work. Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics.

2) CALCULATING GRADE POINT AVERANGE (CGPA)

What is CGPA?

Grading in education is the process of applying standardized measurements of varying levels of achievement in a course. Grades can be assigned as letters, as a range, as a percentage, or as a number out of a possible total. In some countries, grades are averaged to create a grade point average.
